Now a mother of two children with non-speaking autism, Sarah Kernion was thrust into the role of neurodiversity advocate. She was already pregnant with her son, Mack, when she realized something felt different about the development of her daughter, Milly, then 18 months old: “During an attempt to take family photos, it hit me—every detail was accounted for, yet Milly was still inconsolable.” Almost a year later came the diagnosis: Milly had Level 2 autism.
