The BBC has said the TV licence fee could be replaced by a charge added to monthly broadband bills, as it hit back against the Government’s proposal to decriminalise non-payment of the fee.
In its response to the Government’s consultation, the BBC said it strongly supported keeping the existing policy of fining people who didn’t pay the fee.
But it added that it’s willing to consider following other European countries such as Italy and France by implementing a funding model “linked directly to an existing common household bill”, such as the internet connection, electricity supply or even council tax.
