The fantastic SUSE Linux Enterprise Server OS has recently got an official port for the Raspberry Pi 3. Based on the ARM version of the OS, the port will cater for the Model B SBC and will also work in tandem with the Pi’s integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functionality. The single most important file related to file systems is /etc/fstab, which holds their mount points, their types and various other permissions about them – it is the job of the system administrator to alter and maintain the /etc/fstab file in order to contain the correct information. 1 Directories Directories are entries on a file system that contain lists of other files and directories. This happens with the help of inodes, which are data structures that hold information about files and directories. Figure 2 (next page) shows the use of inodes for connecting directories with files. nmap One of the first tools you should install and learn is nmap, which is a port scanner. Figure 6 shows the output from an nmap port scan using an ADSL router as its target. As nmap uses the external IP address of the router, this also shows you what a potential hacker would see.
