2017 #METOO DISRUPTERS
The Silence Breakers
#MeToo was started to empower sexually assaulted people (especially young and vulnerable women of color) through empathy and solidarity. It encouraged victims to speak out about their experiences, call attention to the issue, and form strength in numbers. TIME’s cover features strawberry picker Isabel Pascual (a pseudonym), lobbyist Adama Iwu, actor Ashley Judd, software engineer Susan Fowler, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, and a hospital worker who wished to remain anonymous.
In addition to the cover subjects, the 2017 Person of the Year story spotlights the following women:
Bex Bailey, charity worker
Selma Blair, actor
Tarana Burke, activist
Jessica Cantlon, professor
Terry Crews, actor
Sara Gelser, politician
Blaise Godbe Lipman, filmmaker
Megyn Kelly, journalist
Celeste Kidd, professor
Rose McGowan, actor
Juana Melara, housekeeper
Jane Merrick,…
