Victorian Style Cuff The beauty of this lady’s delicate porcelain face is what inspired my bead-embroidered cuff. I began my project by making her hat, which includes feathers, millinery netting fabric, and beaded “fringe” created with picots on the underside of the brim. Her “dress” was created with a variety of antique buttons (from the late 1890s) surrounded with peyote stitch, vintage rhinestone settings, vintage bicones, vintage concave beads, and two different sizes of Swarovski rivolis. I stitched a netting pattern down the front side and used different techniques around each element to add texture and interest. Once the bigger details were done, I began filling in the piece with cylinders, seed beads, bugles, magatamas, drops, pearls, and Swarovski bicones. every year (for the past 20 years!), the Bead&Button Show organizers contact a bead designer, and contract special show beads to be produced in limited quantity. The commemorative beads offer a unique look each year, such as Aja Vaz’s earthen beads and Julie Nordine’s acorn-shaped focals, to name a few. This year, the 2020 Bead&Button Show Bead is an aethereal, artisan lampwork bead by Cindi Brunell.
