Inspired as much by Resident Evil as Fez, solo developer Billy Basso’s game is the spellbinding result of spending ages building a world and then stuffing every pixelated inch of it with wild ideas, bonkers mysteries, and brain-boggling secrets. Forget the metroidvania, we’re witnessing the birth of a whole new subgenre: the Well-like. (And if that doesn’t catch on, it’ll certainly be Well-liked.)
