In the summer of 1987, I bought my first Mini: a thirteen-year-old 1100 Clubman saloon in Limeflower Green for £400. I could only afford a fixer-upper and certainly not the 1275GT that I really hankered for. And of course, being a teenager in the eighties, it quickly got the classic boy racer treatment: wide Weller wheels, giant spot lamps and a DIY respray in a de rigueur racing red.
