Every two years a dusty airstrip 25 kilometres inland from Gerald-ton, Western Australia, plays host to an eclectic mix of warbird, antique and contemporary aircraft, historic military and farming machinery, and an army of men and women in authentic Great War costume, many mounted on their ‘war horses’. This is the Valley View Air Display, a unique tribute to Australia’s military past, held on the site of the stunning ‘Leanes Trench Project’, a meticulously researched and constructed Gallipoli trench, re-created by the 11th Battalion AIF Living History Unit.
