Beki Haley lives beads. The popular instructor (she is teaching four classes at the 2015 Bead&Button Show) owns with her husband, Shawn, the shop Out On A Whim in Cotati, California. Known to beaders everywhere as Whimbeads, the store is both brick-and-mortar shop (or, in reality, clapboard and nails), and home to a thriving online retail and wholesale beading business.
The constant pull of such beady endeavors as artist, designer, and businesswoman might overwhelm some, but Haley feels right at home on planet bead.
The bead dream
Haley discovered beading in the company of her grandmother, with whom she spent the summers while her parents worked. “Nana was extremely crafty,” Haley says. “She dabbled in many arts and crafts, including beading.”
